Source
At Nairian we promote the sustainable cultivation of lemon basil in Armenia by providing local farmers with seeds and showing them how to grow and harvest this unique species. Once we have our lemon basil harvest, we put it through a hydrodistillation process, in which steam separates the essential oil from the plant matter.
Skin Benefits
The essential oil contained within the lemon basil is very fragrant and offers robust skincare benefits, such as fading breakouts and eliminating redness. Lemon basil essential oil improves the appearance of break-out prone skin, thanks to a high content of a compound called citral, which has antimicrobial properties. Additionally, lemon basil is an excellent deodorant, not just because of its lovely scent, but because the citral in it inhibits bad odours. This makes it a desirable ingredient in body washes and soaps.
Due to a high content of fortifying antioxidants, Lemon basil oil also protects the skin from environmental damage, including redness, fine lines, and sunspots. The mixture of breakout-fighting and skin protecting properties make it ideal for those with oily skin who also want to stave off the signs of ageing or sensitivity.
Our Discoveries
The Nairian lab, in conjunction with Yerevan State University, is currently in the process of publishing research on the properties of the lemon basil essential oil. In their research, they pitted this essential oil against multiple strains of bacteria, including an antibiotic-resistant strain of staph. Lemon basil oil proved able to kill all of the bacteria strains it was tested against.
